EGS GmbH has developed a mobile solution for the calibration of public charging stations for electric vehicles. With the charging meter box, the responsible calibration authorities can calibrate already installed e-charging stations in accordance with the law – without having to use an e-car. In addition, manufacturers of charging stations can use the device to assess the conformity of their devices.
This evaluation is part of the legally required calibration process. AC charging stations are subject to the calibration obligation in accordance with legal regulations. Only certified charging stations with conformity assessment may be used for billing purposes. All public charging stations already in use must therefore be checked immediately for their measuring accuracy, insofar as they are used to charge for charging. This applies accordingly for all new installations.
To check a charging station, the box is connected between the electric car and the charging station. Here she measures the refueled stream. After refueling, the data of the electricity meter in the charging station can be compared with those of the test standard. Since a measurement is possible even without a connected e-car, the calibration process is greatly simplified. In this case, the charging meter box takes over the control of the charging station instead of the e-car.
Not only the calibration authorities benefit from the new testing device. For the first time, manufacturers have the opportunity to carry out the measurements of conformity assessment of their charging stations precisely and on the basis of a test system used by the calibration directorates. The conformity assessment is part of the calibration process and must be carried out either by the manufacturer himself or, if he is not in a position to do so, by the calibration directorates.
EGS uses the high-precision counter LZQJ-XC from EMH Metering as a test meter. This fulfills the accuracy class 0.2 S required by the calibration directorates. Further requirements were: The charging profile can be read out via a USB interface and further processed. The reading of the measured values is possible on site via a transparent window.
