Lightweight module for light roofs

The Sunman solar module is designed above all for low weight. The manufacturer from Hong Kong has succeeded in doing this. Because it completely does without the front glass for its modules. Instead, the solar cells are welded between two sheets of composite material. This ensures a weight of the modules between 2.4 and 8.2 kilograms, depending on the design and number of cells. This makes them well suited for installing solar systems on roofs whose residual load capacity is insufficient for systems with conventional modules. This also applies to roofs exposed to high snow and wind loads.

Sunman offers the modules with three different frames and 72, 48 or 24 solar cells each. Customers can also choose between low-cost polycrystalline and black monocrystalline cells. The SMA series has a black anodised aluminium frame and can be installed with conventional mounting systems. Due to the lack of glass, this module weighs only between 3.6 and 8.2 kilograms. The SMD series is slightly lighter and comes to the customer with a thinner aluminium frame. Installation is extremely fast due to the holes drilled in the frame. The weight is between 3.3 and 7.7 kilograms.

Flexible without a frame

The SMS series comes to the customer with a thin, black frame made of EPDM. These modules weigh between 2.9 and 7.4 kilograms. The modules of the SMF series are flexible and have no frames at all. The panels, which weigh between 2.4 and 6.8 kilograms, are usually glued directly to the roof skin. This module is just over two millimetres thick. Despite the lack of front glass, Sunman gives a product guarantee of ten years and a linear performance guarantee of 25 years. During this time, the module must still have at least 80.2 percent of its original power.

The nominal power of the modules with the polycrystalline 72 cells is 315-320 watts. The polycrystalline modules with 48 cells have a nominal power of 205-210 watts. With 24 cells they reach 100-105 watts. The monocrystalline modules have higher outputs. These are 320-325 watts for the 72 cell, 210-215 watts for the 48 cell and 105-110 watts for the 24 cell module.
